ADVANTAGE GOLF CARS ACHIEVED 114 MILE RANGE DEPLOYING LITHIUM-ION BATTERY SYSTEM FROM LITHIUM BOOST TECHNOLOGIES

LithiumBoost Ultra battery system with 200ah lithium cells and 20a chargers, was installed by Advantage Golf Cars in an E-Z-GO RXV golf cart, replacing existing lead-acid batteries. After performing comprehensive tests and working closely with the Lithium Boost engineering team to enhance the battery system features, Advantage Golf Cars mechanics drove 114 miles per charge at an average speed of 17 miles per hour. This record was accomplished in one day, utilizing multiple drivers taking turns in driving each one hour shift.

“At Advantage Golf Cars in Florida, we aim at best serving our customers and providing them with advanced solutions to satisfy their needs” Said Jason Martin, General Manager North at Advantage Golf Cars. “We searched for a lithium-ion battery solution that could relieve our customers from the lead-acid maintenance and leakage hassle while allowing them to gain longer drive range and significantly reduce their cart weight. Our goal was to achieve 100 miles per charge and we are glad that choosing Lithium Boost’s solution allowed us to exceed our expectations.”

The Lithium Boost Technologies integrated battery system includes lithium-ion cells, chargers, smart BMS (Battery Management System), and all the required wiring, gauge and accessories for powering low speed electric vehicles. Its core value is in the patented BMS and individual-cell chargers system that was designed to optimize and control charging/discharging in order to yield maximum stored energy and assure long life cycle of the lithium cells.

“We are delighted to have Advantage Golf Cars install our lithium battery system and run comprehensive field tests that led us to enhance our system performance and features based on their feedback and requirements, said John Wade, Chief Engineer at Lithium Boost Technologies. “At Lithium Boost we’re confident that the time has come for lithium-ion batteries to replace the existing lead-acid technology for low speed electric vehicles. However, we’re aware that changes take time and require innovation-seeking pioneers such as the team at Advantage Golf Cars,” added Sam Lev, Lithium Boost Technologies CEO. “We look forward to the day when customers can purchase golf cars with ‘lithium inside’ rather than have to go through the costly hassle of replacing the old lead-acid batteries in order to benefit from the advantages of the more advanced lithium-ion technology.”

NEW SENSE SMART™ ELECTROLYTE SENSOR VALVE TAKES THE GUESSWORK OUT OF WATERING BATTERIES

Battery maintenance just got easier with the new Sense Smart™ Electrolyte Sensor Valve, a single replacement valve with a built-in probe and LED indicator that lets operators know when a set of batteries require watering. Flooded lead-acid batteries used in golf cars, access lifts, cleaning machines, forklifts and many other vehicles, lose water from normal evaporation and charging. Adding a Sense Smart™ Electrolyte Sensor Valve into one of the batteries in the vehicle’s battery set can monitor the electrolyte levels of the entire pack.

“Many industries have switched to battery powered vehicles for their fleets, and know that flooded lead-acid batteries are the most cost effective method to power them,” says Don Wallace, U.S. Battery CMO/Executive Vice President. “The problem is providing proper maintenance to all those batteries can be overwhelming and time consuming. The Sense Smart™ valve takes the guesswork out of battery watering maintenance, which when done routinely, can dramatically improve battery life, save time, and substantially reduce annual operating costs.”

The Sense Smart™ valve is the only valve of its kind with a built-in processor and probe that triggers an LED indicator light, mounted to the battery pack, and tells operators if the battery set needs water. A solid green light indicates the electrolyte level of the set is okay. A solid red light tells operators to add water after the next full-charge. A blinking red light indicates the electrolyte level has been low for more than 10 days and requires immediate attention.

The Sense Smart™ Electrolyte Sensor Valve (TBU 1000) simply replaces one cell vent cap on a single battery of a connected battery set, and doesn’t require drilling or calibration. An optional system (TBU 2000) includes a dash mounted LED indicator with a six-foot wire lead. Manufactured by Battery Watering Technologies, and distributed exclusively through U.S. Battery Manufacturing, the Sense Smart™ valve fits a variety of 6-volt, 8-volt, and 12-volt batteries and works with all BWT single point watering systems.

U.S. Battery products and Battery Watering Technology products are manufactured in the U.S.A. and distributed worldwide. For more information, visit www.usbattery.com.

HOW THE POPE GOT HIS GOLF CART

There are bound to be countless stories emanating from the pope’s weekend visit. Most figure to last a lifetime. So why shouldn’t one of them involve golf?

It seems his holiness needed a way to get around the grounds at St. Charles Seminary, where he stayed during his time here. And it happened that a member of the Union League of Philadelphia, who prefers to remain unnamed, was part of the group responsible for helping bring Pope Francis to Philly. Since that organization recently purchased Torresdale-Frankford Golf Club in the Greater Northeast (now known as the Union League G.C. at Torresdale), he took it upon himself to try to solve the problem. Sean Palmer, who formerly was an assistant at Merion, is the head pro there. He got in contact with the man who runs the company that supplies them with their carts. And the rest . . .

“It had to be a six-person electric cart, since they couldn’t use a gas cart,” said Palmer. “Our vendor, John Schneider of (Doylestown-based) Golf Carts Incorporated, said he’d work on it. And they came up with one. It’s not really (the church’s) forte. They didn’t have anything that would work on that property. It required certain dimensions. The first thing I said to John was, ‘I have this very interesting request that I’ll bet you never heard before.’ And he said he’s pretty much heard it all. I told him he might not be able to top this. And when I told him, he was pretty much quiet for about 10 seconds.”

The process began well in advance of this historic moment, with Schneider providing the cart free of charge. It has the Union League crest/emblem on it. What will happen to it going forward is apparently yet to be determined. But as memorabilia goes, it’s a keeper.

“I don’t know if there is a master plan,” Palmer said. “We’ve had many conversations, but no (final) answer. It’s being left ambiguous (for now). We’d be interested in showcasing it (at the club). We’re just happy to be part of the effort the city made. The Union League also supplied the Lincoln lecturn from the Gettysburg Address that was used (at Independence Hall on Saturday). We just wanted to help welcome him in any way we can. We’re hoping the cart can make its way to our course. That would be cool.”
