Discover how golf cars are revolutionizing urban mobility in Central Oregon, ushering in a new era of convenient and eco-friendly transportation.
In recent years, a surprising sight has become increasingly common on the streets of Central Oregon: golf cars. Once confined to country clubs and golf courses, these compact vehicles are now making their mark as a viable mode of transportation in urban areas.
Chris DeJon, the sales manager at Mt. Bachelor Carts and Parts, sheds light on this phenomenon. “They call it a NEV – a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle,” DeJon explains. “But really it’s just meant for kind of cruising around town.” With new models and technologies hitting the market, golf cars are becoming more than just a way to get around the greens – they’re transforming into versatile urban companions.
Unlike traditional golf cars, these new models are street legal on roads with speed limits of 35 miles per hour or less, making them ideal for navigating city streets and neighborhoods. “They would have to have licensed driver insurance and essentially just be driven by a safe and sober driver,” says Cindy Ksenzulak, Bend Police traffic sergeant, emphasizing the importance of responsible driving practices.
Safety is a top priority for these urban explorers. Requirements include features such as seatbelts, turn signals, headlights and reinforced windshields, ensuring a secure journey for both drivers and passengers. With proper licensing and adherence to traffic regulations, golf cars are seamlessly integrating into the urban landscape of Central Oregon.
The concept of neighborhood cars may be new to the region, but DeJon is confident in their popularity. “They are going to be around,” he predicts. “You’re going to see them out there.”
As Central Oregonians embrace this innovative form of transportation, golf cars are proving to be more than just a leisurely pastime – they’re offering a convenient, eco-friendly way to navigate city streets and explore urban environments. With their compact size, electric power and stylish designs, golf cars are paving the way for a greener and more accessible future in Central Oregon’s urban landscape.
