South Shore Golf Cars Expands

Growing demand for neighborhood and commercial golf cars fuels the expansion of South Shore Golf Carts with a new dealership in Wareham.

Golf cars are no longer confined to fairways and clubhouse parking lots. Across the United States, the vehicles are becoming increasingly common in neighborhoods, campgrounds, college campuses and municipal facilities. That shift in demand is driving growth for dealers like South Shore Golf Carts, which opened a new location in Wareham, Massachusetts.

The dealership is located at 58 Sandwich Road, across from Agawam Village. The Wareham store provides golf car sales, repairs and rentals, expanding the company’s regional footprint in southeastern Massachusetts.

The new location joins two existing South Shore Golf Carts facilities, one in Sagamore, Massachusetts, and another in Warwick, Rhode Island. Together, the three locations will allow the company to serve a wider range of residential and commercial customers throughout the region.

According to theweektoday.com, owner Al Ricci said the business has evolved significantly in recent years as the uses for golf cars continue to expand.

“If golf is of interest to community members, a new golf car business just might be the right cup of tee,” Ricci said during a local Select Board meeting announcing the project.

Interestingly, Ricci noted that the majority of the company’s business does not occur inside its physical showrooms. Nearly 60 percent of South Shore Golf Carts’ sales are conducted online, reflecting the broader shift toward digital retail in the recreational vehicle market.

The company’s service model also reflects changing customer habits. Rather than requiring owners to bring vehicles into the shop, technicians often travel directly to customers for maintenance and repairs. Ricci estimates that only about 10 percent of carts serviced by the company actually return to the shop.

Street-legal golf cars represent a particularly fast-growing segment of the business. Many of these vehicles are used for everyday transportation within private communities or local neighborhoods.

Beyond residential use, South Shore Golf Carts also serves a variety of institutional and recreational customers. Colleges and universities often rely on golf cars to move staff and equipment across campus grounds, while municipalities use them for park operations and event management.

Campgrounds have also become a key market. Visitors frequently use golf cars to navigate large recreational properties where walking long distances can be inconvenient.

As these uses expand, dealers like South Shore Golf Carts are finding that golf cars are evolving into a hybrid category somewhere between recreational vehicles and light-duty utility transportation.

The Wareham location is expected to strengthen the company’s service network across southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island while making it easier for customers to access parts, repairs, and new vehicles.

For Ricci and his team, the new dealership represents both a business expansion and a reflection of the growing role golf cars play in everyday transportation.
